Description from the creator

In this video we test 2 methods to preserve a pumpkin after you carve it. How long do pumpkins last? It depends on how hot and how much moisture gets in. Let's see what keeps jack o lanterns the freshest. They can get moldy and shriveled fast!

Tips:
1. Try to get a fresh pumpkin - we went to a local fruit stand to find ours. Buy local!
2. Look for blemishes and try to get ones that aren't damaged.
3. Feel for bruises or soft spots and avoid buying any pumpkins that have them.

Clean your pumpkins and remove all the dirt before carving.

After carving let dry.

You may need to spray the carved pumpkin with solution in a spray bottle daily or frequently. Or, bring your pumpkins inside during the hot part of the day. My porch is in direct sun and if I don't spray them regularly they won't make it to Halloween. They may not anyway, but I'm hoping to make them last as long as possible.

Method 1
Soak pumpkin and in bleach for 20 mins. 3 gallons of water, 1 Tablespoon of bleach.

Method 2
Wet & Forget 5 parts water to 1 part Wet & Forget. I used 5 cups of water to 1 cup Wet & Forget. Pour it over the pumpkin and let sit for 3-4 minutes.

Soak in a kitchen sink, bathtub, clean 5 gallon bucket or even a plastic leaf or kitchen bag.

So that's how to preserve a carved pumpkin the longest.
