How to Set-Up Your Generator

After detaching the generator from the towing vehicle or setting it in place using a crane, be sure to level the unit using the leveling jack. In order to safely run the generator, routine inspection is required prior to use. This how-to-video shows you how to correctly set up your generator upon buying it.

First, open the access door on the curb side of the unit. Inspect the air filters for dirt and debris, replacing if necessary.

Inspect the oil level by accessing the dipstick and accessing if the oil level is sufficient, adding oil if necessary. This should be done while the engine is cool.

Check the radiator’s fluid level by removing the radiator cap and visually inspecting the fluid level and fluid reservoir. If this is a new unit, the negative battery cable will be disconnected and will need to be attached and tightened to the negative terminal.

Turn the key to the run position, making sure that the fuel indicator is reading the volume of the fuel supply. This ensures that the control panel has battery voltage. This also allows the glow plugs to cycle which causes the air and fuel mixture to properly combust in the cylinders.

With the glow plugs ready, turn the key in the start position.
