Description from the creator

✂️*** PLEASE PAUSE YOUR CRAFTING *** FINISH WHAT YOU’VE CUT. STOCKTAKE IS CURRENTLY BEING UNDERTAKEN + ASSESSING OF DEMAND FOR ITEMS *** As requested by the ARCCG ✂️

I show you in this Sewing Tutorial how to make a 3D LINED HANGING JOEY POUCH. These are used by both Wallaby + Kangaroo Joeys whilst in care.

Clean 100% Cotton fabric must be used when making these Hanging Joey Pouches. Please pre-wash the fabric.
The Outer Fabric is made from a sturdy, heavier weight Cotton Fabric - Drill, Denim, Cotton Duck...
The Lining Fabric is made from a softer, smoother, lighter weight Cotton - Flannelette in the cooler areas/seasons or Summer weight cottons in the warmer climates.

When upcycling bedding to make these please ensure they’re 100% Cotton. Often bedding is made from a Poly/Cotton mix. If you’re not sure of the Fibre Content please conduct a Burn Test. Many resources are available on the internet to help you with further information about Fibre Burn Tests.

2 different sizes are used depending whether it’s intended for a Wallaby or Kangaroo.
Cutting size of fabric for the Wallaby 3D Hanging Pouch measures 65cm x 105cm (25.6” x 41.3”).
Cutting size of fabric for the Kangaroo 3D Hanging Pouch measures 75cm x 130cm. (29.5” x 51.2”)
The pattern pieces are simply rectangles - one rectangle in your heavier Outer Fabric + one rectangle in your lighter weight Lining Fabric.

I talk through plenty of points throughout the video. I have created this video Tutorial from the Instructions given on the Long Grass Nature Refuge Site.

longgrassnaturerefuge.com.au/joeybags.html

I have altered the construction method slightly as I believe it is easier to sew, especially for beginners.

This is my 1st video tutorial. And it has been made with urgency given the overwhelming number of fires burning throughout QLD + NSW.
Please excuse any sound recording issues.

I hope you find this useful to make these much needed Hanging Joey Pouches. There are other techniques which can be used, all valid I’m sure, and all needed!

Thank you to everyone volunteering their time + resources. I’ll try make myself available to answer any queries. Please share widely.

There are many resources + a great pro-active community on the Facebook Group Animal Rescue Craft Guild. I would encourage you to join. They can greatly assist with letting you know where to send your pouches + donations.
