Description from the creator

I feel this is the most comfortable reusable mask I have been able to find! It doesn’t even need a pattern!

The wire we will sew into the nose helps it form to the face making it easier to breath. The shape we trim it into helps form to the face in a flattering way. I think they turn out kind of cute! We might find ourselves adding a mask to our everyday wardrobe someday ;)

NOTE: THIS MASK WILL NOT PREVENT YOU FROM CONTRACTING A RESPIRATORY ILLNESS!
Please visit CDC here on the proper use of homemade masks here:
cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/ppe-strategy/…

*** Masks are re-usable, but must be sanitized before/after each use! Machine wash warm and tumble dry low. ***

SUPPLIES:
-2 pieces of fabric, cotton or flannel (You can also cut up old 100% cotton t-shirts!)
-2 elastic strips (the thinner the elastic the more comfortable, but beggars can’t be choosers)
- 1/2 a pipe cleaner or a 5 inch pice of wire

ALTERNATE SIZING:
Child 5" x 7" -with 5-7" elastic straps
Small Adult 5" x 8" -with 8" elastic straps
Medium Adult 5 1/2” x 8" - with 8 1/2“ elastic straps
Large Adult 6" x 9" - with 9" elastic straps

You can always make the straps smaller by folding and sewing a little dart. So when in doubt, make it a little larger.

* Use tightly woven cotton/flannel fabric, or hospital grade material. If you are making them for hospital use, 3 layers would help it be even more protective (cotton on the outsides with flannel in the middle). If you do add another layer, then make the pattern another 1/2 in larger to compensate.
* For donating masks: Keep in mind men and women will be wearing the masks when choosing fabric for mask that will be donated, so don’t go too crazy with material patterns.
* Contact local health facilities to see if they are in need of donations.

Currently, the supply of surgical masks is at a critical all-time low throughout the entire nation. This provides such a great opportunity to help do our part to stop the spread from the comforts of our own home.

In addition to helping medical staff during critical shortages, these masks can be used at home as well. My town in Upstate New York just issued a rule that you have to wear a mask when going out in public. I’m sure the demand will only grow over the next few weeks/months.

While wearing homemade face masks will not prevent against catching a respiratory illness, they can help reduce the spread of large particles when someone sneezes or coughs.
