When you are in a relationship with a lying spouse, it is impossible to trust anything they say.

And without trust, you are in an unhealthy dynamic. Being unable to trust your significant other creates a lot of doubt and insecurity within yourself because you are constantly analyzing what the truth is.

Lack of trust can lead to a lot of pain, heartache, frustration, and anger towards your significant other.

The good news is, there are ways to overcome the problem of having a lying spouse. It is possible for your relationship to get on the right track of honesty and trust.

It just takes effort on both parts, which is how to resolve any marital situation that arises.

How to create honesty in the relationship

Label the lying behavior

There is no way to solve this issue without addressing that it is happening.

The more you hide from the truth, the further away you will get towards an honest relationship. So talk to your spouse and inform them that you are aware lying is happening.

Be honest about how it's impacting you and the relationship

One of the most helpful things we can do in a relationship is to model healthy behavior. By expressing your emotions in a healthy and honest way, this will show your spouse how to do it as well.

Create a safe space for him to talk (no rejection, criticism, or punishment)

Your spouse will not "come clean" if he/she feels there will be judgment, criticism, or rejection on your part. There needs to be a safe space for them to talk.

Most likely the lies are coming from a fear of something (whatever it is), so it's important to create a safe environment for the truth to come out.

Don't blame; problem solve

At the end of the day, you are in a partnership. It is important to figure out how to solve this problem together.

Remember, you are not alone. Having a lying spouse is not just your problem or your spouse problem; it is a marriage problem that requires both parties to figure out a healthy resolution.
