Being a former high school math teacher, I found that students would still struggle with proper place value.

Today I want to share with you a few manipulatives that you can use to help your child learn proper place value and understand the significance of larger numbers.

First I want to share with you how effective an abacus can be when teaching students ones and tens. Then as they get older, they’ll learn hundreds and thousands using the reverse side.

Secondly, I love the place value cards! These are set up with the proper digits for ones, tens, hundreds and thousands, allowing your child to build the numbers correctly.

Finally there are the base ten picture cards. These help your child see the difference between ones, tens, hundreds and thousands to help them properly see how the qualities differ!
