HOW TO TOAST A MARSHMALLOW!
ChannelGreatwood AdventureDescription from the creator
What better than a super tasty toasted marshmallow to seal off a summer day!
Come on a stroll with us in the Greatwood Grounds as we select and shape a simple natural toasting stick and safely toast a marshmallow over a small open fire - YUM!
KEY SAFETY ADVICE
Marshmallow toasting is such a fabulous was to seal off a summers day, but to try and ensure that no unnecessary accidents happen:
Make sure an adult is present in any fire lighting/based activity
Use a fire bin to minimise the risk of spread
Wet the area around the fire, especially in hot spells
Always wear fire safety gloves when making and building fire
Have a water bucket close by so the fire can be quickly extinguished
For this fun task ensure fires are small and under control
Never mess around or run around fire
Take up the 'fire position' when toasting - see video
Keep you toasting stick stable when toasting, don't wave it about, your marshmallow could burn others!
If a marshmallow falls into the bin allow it too, don't try an catch it or retrieve it as it will be very hot - toast another marshmallow!
Blow on your marshmallow at least 10 times before testing it with your fingers and blowing more if necessary
Fully extinguish your fire when done - never leave it unattended
IN THE EVENT OF A BURN
In the event of a minor burn:
Immediately get the burned area under cold running water
The faster and longer the area is cooled the greater the effect on the burn
After the burn has been cooled, cover it with cling film or a clean plastic bag
