My name is Dr Richard Turner, I am a Consultant
Dermatologist.

This video is intended for patients and
healthcare professionals to demonstrate the versatility of
Hydromol Ointment across many different situations.

Hydromol Ointment is a highly occlusive, all-purpose emollient
for the management of eczema, psoriasis and other dry skin
conditions. It can be used as an emollient, bath additive and
as an alternative to soap. Hydromol Ointment does not
contain any fragrances, colours, additives or preservatives.
It is suitable for use in all ages.

Appearance

The appearance of Hydromol Ointment is similar to that of a
thick buttery ointment whose appearance doesn't initially look
easy to apply. However the transformation comes when it is
mixed with water.
Hydromol Ointment has no perfumes and minimal
smell. It can be used neat for very dry areas such as the
soles of the feet, being mindful that this can create a greater
risk of slips and falls, but it really comes into its own in the
bathroom.

Bath Additive

Firstly it can be used a bath additive...
Option C*
...Simply place a small amount of ointment (around the size of
a £2 coin) into your hands and run the warm water from the
bath tap through your fingers into the bath allowing the
emollient to melt through your fingers making a very light milky
moisturising solution. You can then fill the bath.

Soap Substitute

Hydromol Ointment can also be used as a soap substitute. Wet hands
and apply a small amount to the palms then rub the hands
together to create a thick creamy wash, which can be used to clean the skin
Showering

Hydromol Ointment can be used in the shower in the same
way but does work best when applied to wet skin.

Moisturiser

After bathing or showering Hydromol Ointment can be used as
a moisturiser, again applying some ointment to wet palms and
mix it with water you can make your own instant cream.
If you want a really thick cream just add more Hydromol
Ointment and less water, if you only want a light moisturiser
then just dilute it in your palms until you get the correct
thickness. Then apply it to the areas of concern. Hydromol
should be applied in the direction of hair growth where
appropriate and don't forget to let it soak in for a bit before
applying other prescribed ointments or creams to get the
maximum benefit from both.
