How To Wax A Bodyboard? - Bodyboard-School
ChannelBodyboard-SchoolDescription from the creator
Hi, my name is Rob Barber from the Bodyboard School, Bodyboard Holidays and Bodyboard Depot bodyboard shop.
I am here today to talk to you about how to wax up your board for maximum performance.
The first thing that you do is if you are buying a new board straight from a shop and out of a polythene wrapper, take the wrapper off and get a wet cloth to give the board a good old rub on the deck particularly where your hands will go and on the rails.
When you have done that get a dry cloth and repeat the process. That will take the slimy sheen off from the board and prepares it to take the wax. Then get yourself a nice piece of bodyboard wax or surf wax that is nice and tacky, the tackier the better.
The key to bodyboard waxing is to cover the area where your hands will go, where your forearms will go and where you will hold on to the rails and apply a very light, liberal layer where your belly will be laying.
The main error that you will see is that people put loads and loads of wax where you want to be laying on the board, a bit like a surf board but that doesn’t work with bodyboarding because bodyboarding is all about being able to redistribute your weight over the deck of your board and reacting with the board in different way to make you turn and ride the waves differently.
You cannot do that motion if you are stuck to the board.
When you first get a board, you might want to get a good old layer of wax on there, so it gets grippy initially but from the following surfs after that, just a light layer of wax where your stomach is going to go if any, but loads where you are going to put your hands.
The final tip with waxing is that where your hands go over the front corner of the nose you often have nose bulbs which helps you hold on which is part of the design of bodyboards.
Get a good load of wax there so that your fingertips are going to be able to hold on in a claw like fashion.
Then get a bit on the rails and a bit underneath so make sure you get a good grip that is going to help you do those manoeuvres that you want to do and enjoy your bodyboarding more.
