HOW TO WIN a NYC Housing Connect Affordable Apartment [LOTTERY TIPS!]

Learn what the NYC Housing Connect Affordable Housing program is all about, what the process was like for us (including timeline), and our best tips to help you navigate the lottery system so that you have the best chance at a good outcome.

We applied to 100's of affordable housing apartment buildings since we moved to New York City about 8 years ago. Though we'd be drawn and given a log number here or there, it wasn't until about 2 years ago that we received a low enough log number to enter the interview process for a lottery apartment. A.K.A the first big major step towards being closer to that awesome rent stabilized, 80/20, affordable rate apartment. DREAMS.

Our first and biggest step is to sign up on the Housing Connect Website, and be sure to fill out the application and start applying to all the buildings you can. We applied in Manhattan, Midtown, Washington Heights, Queens, Bronx, and yes.... Even Brooklyn.
