Listen to this short gothic tale and see how the action unfolds. Each section of the story is clearly labelled to help you to see how a gothic narrative is constructed:

1 - Exposition; the intro
2 - Incident; rising action
3 - Climax
4 - Falling Action
5 - Resolution

This is a rather timid gothic tale and not too scary or gory. It does contain lots of gothic elements. Please listen to it first before sharing with your students, but likely you will think it is fine to use with students as young as KS2.

It may be worthwhile asking students to list the gothic conventions as they listen to the story being told.
