In my first video on How to Write an Anecdote: Part One, I explained what an anecdote is, and how they work in writing, especially in narrative essays for college application essays.

Here is the link to Part One, in case you missed it: youtube.com/watch?v=-pC1jsoD0ns

I also explain how they are a writing device that allows writers to "show" their points rather than "tell" about them, and why these mini real-life stories are perfect for grabbing readers at the start of a piece of writing.

In this follow-up video, How to Write an Anecdote: Part Two, I go on to explain how to write your own anecdotes, and what details you need to collect in order to craft your own about a real-life moment or event.

Anecdotes take practice, but I believe they are the perfect way to power a personal essay with a real-life story, and can be used in all types of writing.

They work like magic in bringing action and storytelling into college application essay, and help make them engaging and meaningful.

This video is part of my step-by-step online course on How to Write a Killer College Application Essay, which is available for purchase on my web site, www.essayhell.com, or at Udemy.com. The course includes a dozen similar short videos that walk you through the brainstorming process for a great topic idea, and then help you map out a writing plan and finally how to self-edit and polish your essay (as well as many writing tips, strategies and instruction along the way).
