Description from the creator

You will learn how anesthesia affects blood pressure and how to treat hypotension. We will be looking at the systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure readings to determine if the patient is hypotensive and will be discussing the systemic changes of a pet under anesthesia that result in this hypotension.

We will be introducing the vital signs monitor. This monitor can be used to assess various aspects of the cardiac system, and today we'll be focusing on the blood pressure. We'll discuss the difference between the different blood pressure readings: systolic, diastolic, and mean.

We’ll discuss the key factors that contribute to blood pressure as well as how to address abnormal blood pressure during the surgery. Once you understand the vital signs monitor, I will continue to introduce the other equipment that I use during the surgery in future episodes, so that you can eventually see all of the things that I am seeing in the surgery room.

The surgery today is a toe amputation on a cat that developed a tumor on his middle toe. The tumor is quite large, so amputation was the only way to remove it fully.
