I'm so glad my earlier tutorial on getting a cat to take hairball gel helped some people! This is a new method that I've been using with Momo for a few years now -- maybe it will work for you? I like that I can do it by myself and it seems to be less stressful for Momo too. One note: when I say I wipe the gel on the back of her mouth, I mean the roof of her mouth (better than the sides of her mouth because it doesn't get stuck in her fur).
