How to Mount and Dismount a Horse | ABG Equestrian

As lockdown measures are easing, more and more people are able to start enjoying horses and horse riding again. For some, they may have had to wait due to not being able to mount by themselves and coaches not being able to assist due to social distancing.

So here is a guide of how to get on and off a horse correctly. This is known as mounting and dismounting. Please note that different yards will have a different set up with the mounting block, as well as certain protocol they will follow with social distancing. So you still need to take your coaches advice. Some horses may also behave differently and not always stand still, so again, listen to your coach for further guidance.

This is here as a guide to give you more confidence in knowing what is expected of you when you meet your horse.
