HOW TO STOP GROWLING AT GUESTS

I get tonsss of messages from people asking how to stop their dog from growling, barking or lunging at people who come into their home.

It can be pretty embarrassing to have your dog low key ferociously barking/lunging at every person who walks through the front door... so let’s talk about some solutions!

The best way to work through your dog barking/lunging at other dogs or people inside (or outside) of your home is by preventing it altogether.

"Wtf does that mean Kaelin??"

Well, when you're in a situation where you think your dog may react or bite (or has already reacted/barked, growled, lunged), distance your dog far enough away from the trigger object (person, dog, cat, squirrel, etc)

Do this so that you can grasp your dog's full focus (using treats, a toy or just praise so that your dog associates the situation with positivity!!)

If your dog's focus is wandering back to the trigger object, redirect your dog’s attention back to you and make him "work" (sit, lay down, touch, etc)

Basically, no matter if the reacting (barking) is just out of excitement, fear, or confusion/aggression, the key is to get your dog to calm down and focus on you before he goes up to anyone.

Patience is crucial here! Remember that we're changing your dog's natural instincts and what he's been doing his whole life. It would be unrealistic to expect this to be resolved in a few days or weeks.

Again, this process takes time and lots of hard work!!! You only get 100% results if you put in 100% of the work..

Most people aren't willing to do what it takes to get the results they want with their dogs, especially behavioral issues.
