Description from the creator

This tutorial demonstrates five fundamental strategies to training a strong and perfect STAY. The only pre-requisite to this tutorial is a basic understanding of clicker training and positive reinforcement. If you are new or unfamiliar, check out some of our other tutorials that explain the basics in more detail. Teaching your dog to STAY can be a life-saving command and is essential in many day-to-day situations. STAY can also be used to prevent a number of common behavioral problems such as jumping on people out of excitement. Most of the principles demonstrated in this video can also be applied to other behaviors that you may want to train your to do.

Dogs can begin training with positive reinforcement at any age. The force-free methods shown in this video are good for developing the dog's ability to learn. Not only do they teach the dog to enjoy communicating and interacting with humans, they also establish a desire to WANT to be obedient. There are different routes to motivation but the most effective course is the one that avoids any resistance. As a teacher, you want nothing more than a student who wants to be in the classroom more than anywhere else. This is the philosophy behind everything we teach at Training Positive.

The reward that you see me use in the video are Watson's regular meals. We rarely (if ever) utilize treats or rewards other than food and it is under very special circumstances.
