How to associate the file types with applications in windows 10

In the Start Menu, Select Settings -- Apps -- Default Apps -- Click on Choose default apps by file type on the bottom of the page

Select the file type for which you want to set or change the default app -- our case .json -- Click on Choose a default -- Select the required apps(my case Notepad++),

if the required apps are not listed then click on Look for an app in the Microsoft Store -- install the app and select as default.

Now the .json files are associated with Notepad++ application, the same steps can be followed for associating different file types to applications.
