How to change connection from public to private - Windows 10

When you make your network connection private then other computers or devices connected to the same network can discover your device and can send request to connect it. This is generally done for home or work network. But if you are on public then you want to make your connection public so that your device won’t be discovered by others.

1. Click on start and then on settings.

2. Click on Network and internet.

3. Click on “WiFi”.

4. Click on “Manage known networks’.

5. Select your network.


6. Click on “Properties”.

7. Now under “Make this PC discoverable” it is currently on. It means that your device right now can be detected by devices connected to the same network. Your connection is Private.

8. Now if you disable this option then your network will turn public it means that it won’t be discovered by other devices.

9. After disabling this option right click on your internet connection icon and then click on “open network and sharing center” and you can see the connection is public now.

Again you can go back and enable the option for make this pc discoverable and if you check your internet setting it is private now.
