How to Import and Edit Microsoft Office Files in Google Drive Docs

This video shows you how to import Microsoft Office files into Google Drive Docs for editing. While this video focuses on importing a Microsoft Word document into Google Docs, you can use this same process for uploading Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint files into Google Sheets and Google Slides, respectively.

Here are the steps on how to import and edit your Microsoft Office file with Google Drive Docs:

1. Upload the Microsoft Word file into Google Drive by dragging it from your desktop or uploading it from a folder.

2. Open the file within Google Drive. It will give you a preview of that file in Microsoft Word format. Unfortunately, you cannot edit the file as a Microsoft Word document as of the publishing date of this video, so you will need to convert that Microsoft Word file to a Google Docs file.

3. Click "Open in Google Docs" in the top center part of the screen. This converts the Microsoft Word file to Google Docs format. The file is now editable in Google Docs. The converted file should look exactly the same as the Microsoft Word file depending on the complexity of the Microsoft Word document.

4. Edit the file as you wish.
