In this video, I'll show you how to mod a Nerf gun (Disruptor) into a DIY coilgun or a gauss rifle that shoots steel bullets. A coilgun or gauss gun is a projectile accelerator that consists of electromagnetic coils in the configuration of a linear motor which accelerates ferromagnetic projectile to high velocity.
The video begins with a brief explanation of the project and the components used. Two Capacitors (rated 400V, 470μF) stores the electrical energy which is discharged into the coil to produce a strong magnetic field. The capacitors are charged by a DC-DC Converter which is extracted from a disposable camera's Flash circuit.
Then I disassemble the nerf blaster and start modding it into a coilgun.
