Description from the creator

This is my wife's grandmother's caramel icing recipe. It is a true southern, made from scratch, caramel icing. This recipe uses no brown sugar or sweetened condensed milk.

Here are the ingredients:

4 cups sugar (save 1/2 cup to brown)
1 cup milk
1 Tbsp light karo syrup
1 generous pinch of salt
2 sticks butter
1 tsp vanilla

Sorry I didn't get the soft ball part on video. Essentially, you want the caramel to be able to be gathered into a clump and hold itself together. It doesn't need to be an actual ball. If it dissipates into the water, it hasn't gone long enough. You want to stop as soon as it holds itself together.
