SUMMARY:

1) cholesterol
-highest intake of cholesterol containing foods had the highest risk of developnig alzheimers
-apoe4 is a special gene for fat and cholesterol carriers. inheriting it is bad. it carries cholesterol to synaptic connections in the brain less efficiently than a protein apoe2. those with both genes for apoe2 rarely develop alzheimers
-similarly, higher total fat intake had 240 percent higher risk of developing dementia
-low cholesterol and fat diet (but don't forget your omega 3's -- 60% reduction)
-lower cholesterol = statins (brain needs cholesterol, coq10, difficulty thinking) or poliocasanol

2) sugar:
-increases metabolism, free radicals. most free radicals come from metabolism
-insulin resistance
-A new study done by researchers at Albany University in New York, shows that Alzheimer's may be the late stages of type 2 diabetes (no sugar in brain)

3) antioxidants:
-found those with these such as AD and PD have chronic nutrient deficiencies long before the disease presents = beta carotene, b1, b6, folate, b12, vitamin c
-when these deficient, homocysteine accumulate (they have increased levels) -- shares risk factor for cardiovascular illness
-high in fruits, vegatables, = age 65 and older, 5 years, fruits and veggies had 51% percent lower incidence
-blueberry extract completely prevent AD in an animal models
-take multi vitamin
- N-acetyl L-cysteine = raises glutathione
