How to upgrade Ansible AWX

I did long time way to easyly update Ansible AWX - system, but it's a project from Red hat not full product. So there is not build in way to upgrade AWX to newer version. Here is way to how to update and migrate data between old and new Ansible AWX containers.

Commands:

backup awx data
pip install ansible-tower-cli

update docker-compose if needed
curl -L github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/1.2… -s`-`uname -m` -o /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose

tower-cli config host old-awx-host.example.com
tower-cli config verify_ssl false
tower-cli config username user
tower-cli config password pass
tower-cli receive --all to file assets.json

--- backup postgresql optional

Container postresql
docker-compose exec postgres pg_dumpall -U postgres --clean to file ~/awx_pgdumpall_2018-12-14.sql

Or separate postresql server
sudo su - postgres
pg_dumpall to file awx.db

Check pg_hba.conf to match docker ips
/etc/init.d/postgresql restart

remove old awx
docker stop postgres awx_task awx_web memcached rabbitmq
docker rm -f postgres awx_task awx_web memcached rabbitmq
rm -rf /tmp/awx*

--- Upgrade ---
make a new folder for awx installation
mkdir new-awx

cd new-awx
git clone github.com/ansible/awx.git

cd awx/installer
pip install docker-compose

ansible-playbook -i inventory install.yml

Import data
tower-cli config host new-awx-host.example.com
tower-cli config username user
tower-cli config password pass
tower-cli send assets.json
