Description from the creator

Whether you spend £100 or £500 on a cricket bat, it is important to take a few basic actions before you take onto the cricket field. Most, if not all cricket bats are now pre-knocked in but you should still take time before use, to knock in by hand. This can be done with abtting mallet or an old cricket ball in a sock.

Whichever method you use, it is recommended to spend a minimum of 4 to 8 hours preparing your bat for play. I just hope you have understanding neighbours and friends as the noise of knocking in a cricket bat, can be quite annoying.

Once the bat is knocked in, don't forget to apply a small amount of linseed oil to stop the bat from drying out.

As part of my SportsBallStu Investigates series, I take a look at the how to look after your expensive cricket bat.
