Description from the creator

This is a video excerpt from Disc I of the “Video Encyclopedia of Nine-ball and Ten-ball” (VENT), covering how to train a pool table to ensure accurate and consistent racking on the balls for 9-ball, 10-ball, and 8-ball without a need for a racking triangle or racking template. For more information, visit the VENT website at:

NOTE CONCERNING THE SPOTS AFFECTING BALL PATHS:
Many people have asked if the training dimples in the cloth can affect the paths of balls. The short answer is: Yes. Here's the long answer:

If a ball is just about to come to rest, and it happens to be right on or extremely close to one of the training marks, the ball will settle in the mark. Also, a ball that rolls very slowly very closely to one of the spots will be affected slightly. However, this does not happen often, and it is not a big effect anyway. I don't think Bob or I noticed a moving ball get affected once during our entire week of filming for the VENT project. A physical racking template (e.g., a Magic Rack) can have a much bigger effect during a break shot and if it is not removed from the table after the break shot (which should never be the case).
