Transcript:

1. Gameplay:
In hockey, the game is started by a faceoff. Two players, one from each team, await the drop of the puck. A pro game is divided into three periods, each twenty minutes in duration. If the score is tied after that, sudden death overtime (OT) is played. Should the score be tied after OT, a shootout occurs. A team scores by shooting the puck into the goal. Each team has five skaters and one goalie on the ice. Also, each team has one timeout for the whole game.

2. Officials:
An NHL game is presided over by two referees and two linesmen. Obviously, the referees control the game, assessing penalties for rule violations. The linesmen watch the lines for icing and offside.

3. Penalties:
In hockey, anyone who violates the rules will be sent to the penalty box. Minor fouls are penalized for two minutes, but major infractions result in five minutes in the penalty box. Only dangerous acts warrant the ejection of the offending player. Remember, the penalized player's team is shorthanded during it.
