Step-by-Step Acrylic Painting Tutorial | Easy Painting Idea for Abstract Art

I'm launching an online course on abstract acrylic painting in the fall. To get invited, sign up for my newsletter: mariakarpenko.com/newsletter.html

I show how to use a squeegee to create these three abstract paintings of birch trees. This application method is an easy painting idea for abstract art. I use lots of white and metallic copper and gold paint in this step-by-step acrylic painting tutorial.

TECHNIQUE:
Create an underpainting of birch trees using brushes. My birch trees are white and brown trunks and branches on a yellow, green, and purple background. Next, apply white, copper, and gold with a palette knife and a large squeegee. In this video, I show how I squeeze soft body acrylic white paint directly onto the squeegee and canvas. You'll also see how I squeeze metallic paint directly out of the tube and use a palette knife. Note: My underpainting is in oil and provides most of the texture you see. The texture is reminiscent of peeling birch tree bark. I love creating paintings that resemble the texture of the object I'm painting.
