In this video tutorial, I will give you a quick introduction to layers tool in GIMP. Layers tool allows you to stack images and edit each layer separately. This is a common process used when creating digital artwork or photo manipulation.

The concept of using layer is GIMP is almost the same logic as using Layers in Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop differs as layers effects are not distructive so can easily be reverted. GIMP layer effects are applied permanently so it is a good idea to replicate a layer before applying an effect.
Layers in GIMP can be restacked in any order which is similar is Adobe Photoshop.
