This video makes you aware of a hidden danger when cleaning some rugs: LATEX BACKING
Latex is usually applied to these rugs to help stabilize the shape of a rug and to hold the knots in place.

Over time this adhesive can degrade into a powder. If this powder gets wet it can wick up into the top of the rug and leave brown and yellow rings when dry. These blotchy areas may not be able to be removed.

Before washing check out the rugs backing material and if necessary consult a professional cleaner in your area.

TIP: If you do wash a needlepoint rug dry it quickly…and dry it upside down!!!
