Description from the creator

This video is to help beginners to learn how to do a basic 1-2-3 in Irish dance, or to help those of you that know how to do a 1-2-3, improve your jumps. I also dive into some deeper music theory for anyone that has asked the question: Why are the jumps counted in 3 when the music is in 4/4? I hope this helps explain it to you.

I start by teaching you how to dance the step slowly and demonstrate from different angles so you can practice along. I change my verbal cues each time to help you learn depending on what is the most helpful cue for you.

I then dance them slowly on my toes so you can practice with me. During this, I demonstrate how to count to the music and I explain why the jumps are counted in 3 but Reel music has 4 beats every bar.

I then teach you how to jump in the step and show you some ways to help you practice at home. Then I show you how to string each 1-2-3 together.

After this is a practice section where you can practice along with me 5 times! I help teach you to count yourself by counting before you dance and during. The last two times I show you how to count using complex counting where we count each of the 4 beats in each bar. I wouldn't recommend always counting this way but it helps teach you to break down the music for timing when you are dancing harder steps.

Feel free to comment below about your experiences when you first learned to do your 1-2-3's!
