SUMMARY
--------------------

1. Hiring your friends - is it a wise decision?
We tend to hire friends because, let’s face it, they're easier to work with and it makes for a nicer working environment, and they already get you and so have a better understanding of your business concept. Unfortunately, we forget that just because we’re friends, we're not necessarily going to be on the same page regarding the project we’re in. So, what happens when we no longer see eye to eye? Can we separate friendship from business? I say it’s not about choosing one versus the other.

2. Write down the full description of both of your roles in the business.
Take a second to think who does what in the company? Did your partner bring you a certain number of clients? Did he create the logo of your business? Write it all down; don’t leave any detail out. Your goal is to make sure that when you separate the company, everything is even.

3. Write down everything you want to say to them.
Write your partner a letter. Don’t worry, you won’t be reading this to them so you can pour your soul out. This exercise helps you to get all of your thoughts in order, and loose the frustration you’ve accumulated along the way. Once you do this, you’ll immediately feel free.

4. Set-up the meeting.
Keep in mind that you are now addressing a problem to your business partner, not to your friend, and a true entrepreneur should understand this. It’s just business; it's nothing personal. Remember to pick a neutral environment in which to have this conversation, approach the conversation with grace, and outline your vision for the company.

5. Draw out your timeline for the next year.
Create a list of everything that you might be facing now, being alone in the business. Start there and work your way toward your potential victories. Don’t be discouraged in letting go of your close friends and family. You know what the right thing is. You know that if they’re your friends, they’ll understand.
