Keep in mind that adding ice melter to roofing materials does cause problems over time. These are emergency recommendations in the case of water entering the home through the roof. Its best to spend your time and energy getting to the root cause of the ice build up which is usually heat loss through the attic. When the temperature gets really cold the melting slow or stop depending on the severity of the heat loss.
