How To Give Constructive Feedback (Without UPSETTING Others!)
ChannelMTD TrainingDescription from the creator
Giving feedback isn’t just saying “well done” or “try harder.” Constructive feedback is a skill that separates good managers from great ones.
In this video you’ll learn how to give and receive feedback in a way that helps people improve without making them defensive or confused.
What you’ll learn:
General vs Specific: Why broad comments like “great job” or “that wasn’t your best” don’t help—people need to know exactly what they did and how to repeat or improve it.
Positive vs Developmental: How to balance praise with constructive suggestions so your team feels encouraged and not criticised.
Specific Positive Feedback: How to recognise the behaviours (tone of voice, eye contact, open questions) that made a presentation or meeting work so the person can do it again.
Specific Developmental Feedback: How to point out what went wrong (e.g., letting meetings overrun) and give a simple fix (set ground rules) without attacking the person.
Giving Feedback Tips: Be timely, focus on behaviour not the person, stick to facts, be concise, and use “I noticed…” statements to keep it personal and genuine.
Receiving Feedback Tips: Stay open‑minded, listen to understand, ask for clarification, thank the giver, and take time to respond rather than react.
By the end you’ll know how to deliver feedback that motivates real change—and how to take feedback on board without feeling attacked.
