What is Calcitriol?
Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D, normally made in the kidney. A manufactured form is used to treat kidney disease with low blood calcium, hyperparathyroidism due to kidney disease, osteoporosis, and familial hypophosphatemia. It is a prescription vitamin D and is not sold over the counter. It can drastically improve your kidney function if you deal with proteinuria.

What this study showed is that people with kidney disease in stage 3 or 4 who took calcitriol had blood tests and their vitamin levels were at 25-26 and anything under 30 means you’re deficient in the vitamin. Robert recommends the vitamin levels to be at 40-60 for proper kidney health and adequate vitamin D levels. The study showed that people who got out of that deficiency range had less protein in the urine. Low amounts of protein in urine can help improve kidney function.

If you have chronic kidney disease or your kidneys don’t function properly, it is crucial to get tested and to know where your levels are at. Depending on what stage you’re at, most people would probably have to supplement in order to keep their vitamin D levels in check & improved kidney function.

The kidneys play a big role in making vitamin D. Everybody with kidney disease should get their vitamin levels tested and should emphasize on taking supplements if they are deficient. Vitamin D supplements can vastly increase your chances of improving kidney function.

How to Lower Protein in the urine.
Proteins are substances that are essential for your body to function properly. Protein is normally found in the blood. Lower protein in the urine means better kidney function. If there is a problem with your kidneys, protein can leak into your urine. While a small amount is normal, a large amount of protein in the urine may indicate kidney disease and harm kidney function. High protein in urine can be caused by dehydration, high blood pressure, CKD, and other various diseases.

Proteinuria often means that your kidneys aren’t properly filtering blood. Therefore, the goal of treatment is to manage the underlying condition. There are many ways to lower protein in the urine, one of them is keeping your vitamin D levels in check and taking supplements if needed. Some other ways of treatment may include dietary changes, weight loss, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, or even dialysis. However, you should avoid foods that are high in potassium and magnesium, if you are or have been diagnosed with Proteinuria.
