This video shows you how to make incense sticks with essential oils one at a time!

I’m using a pre-made blank incense stick, and I’m going to add essential oils to it in an olive dish. This is the simplest way I’ve found to make incense sticks! Once you know how to make one, you’ll find it easy to increase your recipe and make incense sticks in bulk.

You can use any essential oils you like to make incense sticks. For this video, I chose Frankincense, Cypress, and Ylang Ylang.

The incense recipe is:

10 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) (1:04)
8 drops Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) (1:48)
2 drops Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) (2:09)

You’ll see I’m just moving the essential oil bottle along the length of the incense stick as I add the drops. It doesn’t really matter where the essential oil drops land on the incense stick, because after I’m finished adding the drops I take the incense stick and move it around the olive dish to absorb the essential oils all over (2:33).

Then I set the incense stick to dry in a mug for a few days (3:01). (Be sure to choose a mug that you want to dedicate to when you make incense sticks, because once you use it for this, the mug will probably always smell like the incense!)

After a few days, you can burn your incense stick just like any other. Enjoy!

Why does incense play such a key role in so many medicinal and spiritual traditions around the world?

How does incense work to help us access deeper levels of wisdom and healing?

Can you tap into these properties of incense and enhance your essential oil practice?

I can answer the last question for you . . . YES! When you understand how to use incense and how to “listen” to it, you can bring new dimensions to your Aromatherapy practice. My friend Eric, owner of the Northwest School of Aromatic Medicine, can answer the first 2 questions and so much more!

The “Listening to Incense” Home Study Course is offered by the Northwest School of Aromatic Medicine. It can teach you how to use incense in traditional and modern ways, so you can bring nuance and wisdom to your Aromatherapy practice. You’ll have the opportunity to experience for yourself why so many people love incense, and how it can put us in touch with your own roots, your own wisdom, and your ability to connect with the world in meaningful ways. Learn more about the course here! aromahead.co/ListeningToIncense
