How to Measure Steps for Carpet | Carpet Talk

Thinking about new carpet for your stairs? Getting a useful estimate starts with knowing what to measure.

Your steps have more than just a width. There’s the tread—the part you walk on—the riser, and the front edge that the carpet wraps around. Landings, turns, and differently shaped steps also need attention.

In this Carpet Talk video, Jeff with Dayton Carpet explains how to measure steps for carpet, what measurements to write down, and the details that are easy to overlook. A little preparation can help you get a clearer picture of your project before you shop.

Prefer to let us handle the measuring? Dayton Carpet offers free measures, free quotes, and free take-home samples—so you can see your favorite colors in your home, under your lights.
