How to Remove a Red Carpet Stain (red wine, kool-aid, punch,)

This particular stain was Hawaiian punch and it was 2 years old. Here is how we did it:
We mixed 2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Using this white vinegar solution and a clean white cloth, we wet the stain and wet a white t-shirt with the same solution. Completely cover stain and use a hot iron to remove the stain. Remember only apply heat to the wet cloth do not place iron directly on rug. Repeat until stain is removed (it took us several tries approx. 30 minutes).
We tried several solutions but it didn't matter the results were the same. I think it was the heat that removed the stain.
Our other solutions included
1. Hand sanitizer
2. 1/2 cup ammonia 2 cups water
3. Resolve carpet cleaner same results
