Testing, treating, and removing organic stains in your pool is one of the easiest parts of pool maintenance. First you need to identify if the stain is organic. A simply way is to place a tab on the affected area. If the stain lightens up it's organic and can easily be treated and removed.

Or you can use a form of granular chlorine. Dichlor, Trichlor, or calcium hypochlorite work very well in smaller areas and doses for removing stains. Sprinkle a light layer of chlorine on the affected area and allow to sit. The active chlorine will remove the organic stain, but be careful if you have a vinyl liner. Leaving the tab or granular chlorine on the area too long may cause the area to bleach out. Check the area every couple of minutes.
