Are you looking for assertiveness training or ways to learn how to stand up for yourself?
If you let your potential partners push you around and you feel there’s nothing you can do about it if you want to win business from them… If you believe that it’s just part of selling…
Well it’s not and I’m going to show you how to become more assertive so you can put a stop to this self sabotaging behaviour of being passive and weak
Assertive individuals close more often. And you want to close more deals right? So stay tuned.
A high percentage of sales professionals let their potential partners bully them around. They bend to the unreasonable demands of other people to try and get the deal done. They’d take the partners kids to school for a month whilst nursing their sick aunt Margret for just the sniff of potentially closing the deal if it was an option…
Well, the crazy thing is that is that in our research, sales professionals with a higher level of assertiveness, those that don’t get pushed around, do far better with regards to hitting their sales targets.
That’s why we measure assertiveness as a key sales success trait in our own Salesman.org SalesDNA assessment.
The good news is that if you’re current a wet, passive selling drip… you have 6 God given assertive rights, that once you make them your default set of behaviours, you’ll never be weak and passive in business again.
You have a series of assertive rights and these are a basic framework for you live your life, have relationships with other humans, expressing yourself to others without fear of judgement and to enable you to help others when you choose to help them, rather than being browbeaten into doing it like in the example at the top of this video.
This framework will help you succeed in being assertive in both sales and out of sales as well.
How does that sound? You in? OK lets run through your God given assertive rights that Alpha M would be proud of -
1. You have the right to offer no reasons or excuses for your behaviour.
2. You have the right to judge if you should find solutions for other people’s problems.
3. You have the right to change your mind.
4. You have the right to say “I do not know.”
5. You have the right to be illogical when making decisions.
6. You have the right to say “I don’t care.”
The crazy thing is with these assertive rights, that they’re pretty obvious right?
Let me make this real for you, if you were talking to a child then you’d take the assertive side of the conversation and you’d leverage these rights by default.
You wouldn’t be worried about saying “I don’t know” if they asked you a dumb question. You wouldn’t be concerned about randomly changing your mind about something, you’d pull them along with you.
But all this changes when we feel like someone else has the authority in a conversation like your boss or a potential partner. Then we’d never dare say “I don’t care” even though you would say that to a child.
So from that logic, if we find ourselves not leveraging these beliefs, then we’re the child in the conversation rather than the adult. If this is the case your assertive communication is very weak.
Do you think your potential partners want to work with and buy from a child or an adult? They want to work with adults of course, this is why increasing assertiveness and confidence alone can dramatically improve your selling results.
