How to remove weapons on Assassin's Creed (2, Brotherhood, Revelations)

How to remove crossbow, sword dagger, etc. Step 1: get into a fight, and get close to dying. Step 2: when you die, once your body hits the ground click start(ps3, or whatever your using to pause game). Go to your outfits, and change your outfit. When you respawn you should not have what ever weapon you were holding. I haven't had this fail me so far so nothing really to worry about.
