How to Secure your Modem / Router

This is an understanding on how to secure your modem / router. All though in todays world most ISP give you a "gateway" it's a combination of a modem which modulates and demodulates any incoming/outgoing signals short for Modem, and thats what makes the internet. However a Router sole purpose is to allow multiple devices and routes the traffic, so we're actually securing/changing the settings on the router actually, but it's not like the common consumer cares whats the differences of the definition between a Modem and Router, they just think it's the same meaning. :P
