How to add music in iMovie

iMovie has a lot of advanced options for adding music. You can import mp3 or WAV files, change the volume of the music track, fade the music in and fade it out and you can lower other audio tracks on your project if you need the music to sound front and center.

To avoid copyright issues with music, you have a couple of choices.

If you are going to YouTube, you can use the YouTube music library to find music.
youtube.com/audiolibrary

Or you can purchase royalty-free music that gives you permission to use the music in your project.
