If you have a brick-and-mortar business or a service-based business, you need to be on #GoogleMyBusiness. Building a local listing on Google is essential for your digital marketing success because it helps you show up on #GoogleSearch and #GoogleMaps.

Consider Google My Business (GMB) like your own piece of property on Google local. Every day your potential customers are turning to Google My Business SEO listings to fulfill a need for products and/or services in their local area. By having a GMB listing, you are meeting them in the middle and showing them how you can help.

In this digital marketing tutorial, Bryan Caplan, a speaker for the Grow with Google program, goes in depth on how to create a Google My Business 2021 local listing. Follow along as he takes you through 8 easy steps to build out your local SEO profile:

1) Start by going to www.google.com/business
2) Log in with your Google account
3) Enter your business name
4) Choose whether you want customers to visit your location
4a) Enter your address if "Yes"
4b) Enter your service areas if "No"
5) Choose your Primary business category
6) Add your phone number and website
7) Verify your local listing (most likely with a postcard)
8) Finish populating your Google My Business profile

00:16 First thing we're going to do is go to google.com/business so you'd go to google.com/business then you'll click on this blue button manage.

00:55 Now there is a Bryan's pizza already in Citra, Florida. I'm not there. I'm going to create a business with this name. Bryan's pizza. So next we have Bryan's pizza. Make sure the business name is correct and I click next. Then we have the ability to choose if people are going to visit our location or if we go and provide services to them. Now, if you have a home office and you don't want people coming to you, then you would click no. In this case we're creating a pizza chain or a pizza restaurant and we want people to obviously come into our pizza restaurant to order. So I'm going to click on yes and then I'll click next. Okay, so I entered in a, the street address is an address that I know exists in my town and I'll click on next. Then we're asked. Okay. Do you also serve customers outside of this location? Well, we offer delivery, so yes, we do serve customers outside of this location.

02:26 There we go. So I chose some different towns. You can see that I can choose multiple towns. I can also add more later. I'll click next. Now we're going to choose the category that best fits our business. This is called the primary category, so this is the category that defines our business. We can add more later. We can add up to 10 business categories.

03:30 And once we finish what brought to the verification screen. Now here's why Google has a verification process. Basically, Google wants to reduce the amount of fake businesses online, so a business has to be tied to a physical location. A physical address. Please note, you cannot use a PO box. You cannot use a box that you rent at the ups store or postal annex. It has to be a physical location, so in this case, I entered in that Bryan's pizza is located at 90 South main street in Sharon, Massachusetts. I wouldn't have my contact name be Bryan Caplan. I would click on mail, and then what happens is Google will send a postcard to 90 South main street and Sharon Mass with a code. When I get that postcard, I'm going to go to google.com/business log into my dashboard and I'm going to enter in that code that verifies that I own the business at this specific address.

09:18 Here's the business description. Now the business description is 750 characters. You have 750 characters, meaning a letter, a number, a space or a punctuation Mark to describe your business. I'm not going to be able to do it here, but I'll just say welcome to Bryan's pizza. We're proud to be one of Sharon's first pizza places that offers delivery. We have a wide range of menu items including garlic, bread, cowl zones, barbecue, chicken, pizza, and even garlic nuts, so on and so forth. I apply that and now I have a description, the opening date a, we're open in 2019 select a month. Well, I'm going to say October.
