🙌 LEARN THE BEST OF PIKTOCHART! 🙌 | In this video tutorial we will walk you through creating a custom poster that uses photographs, patterns, and letters that blend together in a beautiful abstract composition.

Piktochart is an all-in-one graphic design platform that enables business professionals to create infographics, presentations, reports, and printables online, without any graphic design experience.

There are times that you just want to create something truly different and unique. Be it a poster promoting your next event or something you simply want to hang on your wall, in this tutorial we will teach you how to turn a blank canvas into an abstract design in Piktochart. Here we go:

STEP 1: SET THE BACKGROUND
Head over to the left panel and select “Background”. Here you can insert your own HEX code, choose from one of the predefined swatches, or simply pop open the color wheel and select the color of your liking.

STEP 2: ADD TEXTURE
In the same “Background” section, scroll down to “Background Images” and choose one from our wide selection of textures, and patterns.

STEP 3: ADD IMAGE
Head over to the “Graphics” section in the left panel and pop open “Photos”. From here, upload your own image or choose from a beautiful collection of photos (all royalty-free!). In this case, to recreate our example, type in: “abstract” in the search bar and drag a photo of your liking onto the canvas. Holding down the SHIFT key, drag its corners to enlarge it. Then, head over to the top toolbar to lower the opacity of your image. In this case, we set it to 35%. Finally, lock the image to keep it in the same place.

STEP 4: PLACE IMAGES INSIDE LETTERS
Head over to the “Graphics” section in the left panel and select “Photo Frame”. Photo Frames are predesigned placeholders we can add any image to. Scroll down to the letter section and click on the ones you’d like to use in order to add them to the canvas. To add photos to them, simply go to the same “Graphics” section and open “Photos”. Choose any photo you like and drag it straight to your chosen letter until it “snaps” into place.

STEP 5: ADD TYPOGRAPHIC CONTRAST
To make your design pop, you can play around with scale. In this case, we will resize some of the letters we’ve previously added. To scale up one of the letters, select it, and hold the SHIFT key while you enlarge it to keep its original dimensions in check. To center the letter, head up to the alignment tool in the top toolbar where you can align it to the horizontal and vertical center.

STEP 6: LAYERING
Working with layering is another way of changing the appearance of our design. Here, we are going to place one of the letters on top of the others. To do that, head up to the “Arrange” section on the top toolbar and select “Bring to Front”. This action will send all the other letters automatically to the back. In order to place all letters behind the background, we created earlier, repeat the same action but this time select “Send to the Back”.

STEP 7: ADD TEXT
Head over to the “Text” section in the left panel and select “Title”, change its color from black to white, set it in bold, and type in your content. Also, change the alignment to the left. Next, head up to the font menu in the top toolbar and select the font called “Poppins”. You can also upload your own brand font if you wish! Click ENTER to create a line break between the two words. Then, select your text and scale it up by dragging its corners. Finally, go over to the “Graphics” section in the left panel, select “Lines” and add a thin line to the canvas. Change its color to white and change it from the default “Dashed” to “Solid”.

And there you have it. Hope you found it useful! We’d love to hear what you think in the comments below ⬇️.
