The most important thing to look for when you are looking for a psychiatrist or a treatment provider is to find someone that you trust, someone that you feel like you could talk to about what's going on and be really honest with. Someone who will be responsive to your requests and your symptoms. If you feel like you need a medication change because of side effects, they'll speak with you about it. They can reason with you and give you the options that are available to you.

So, how do you go about doing this? Well, treatment providers vary and services vary. Good places to look are, first of all, online. Now, in the Internet age, we have many different search engines where you can type in, for example, "New York City psychiatrist".

One other way is to call your insurance and say, "I need a psychiatrist, this is what I've got going on," and they will help you to find someone as well. If you have Medicaid, for instance, you can go to a city hospital and also seek help there, and they will help you to link up to different treatment providers, either at the hospital, or in your neighborhood as well.
