How to Fit a Door Architrave
ChannelCharlie DIYteDescription from the creator
In today's video I will be showing you how I recently installed a door architrave in the spare room that I'm currently renovating.
You can buy me a coffee here buymeacoffee.com/charliediyte or become a monthly member to unlock Discord forum membership, exclusive content and automatic entry into my FREE Monthly Giveaway. Thank you SO SO much!!
You can now access my 🛠Charlie DIYte Amazon Tool Store here amazon.co.uk/shop/charliediyte - where you'll find all my tried, tested and much loved DIY tools arranged into handy categories.
You'll probably find you need to take the door architrave off if (like me) you're replastering the room or otherwise altering the door frame/ door lining.
If replacing the architrave with a new one, you've got a variety of styles to choose from, the most popular being the ogee shape, but architraves also come in a variety of depths and widths, depending on your budget and the style that you require.
You also have to choose between pine and mdf.
Architraves also vary in depth - typically from 15mm goo.gl/Dk79MV up to 22mm goo.gl/RPz9Lu.
In my case, I'm matching the new architraves, with the existing architraves elsewhere in the house - the style being a plain, rounded over edge rather than the more decorative ogee. Because I'm making my own 7x1 inch skirting board which has a finished depth of 20mm, I am using the same wood (2x1inch) for the architrave, as it's important that where the architrave butts up against the skirting board at floor level, the architrave and skirting are the same depth.
