How to fix a broken sprinkler head. DIY irrigation repair is a simple task. Replacing a sprinkler head only takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Replacing irrigation heads is essential from time to time to maintain optimum performance from your irrigation system. I replaced a Hunter PGP head with a Rain Bird 42SA+. I must say, I much prefer the Rain Bird heads spray pattern over that of the Hunter PGP. The 42SA+ cost $12.
