Description from the creator

My daughter and I picked up a beautiful cotton/spandex tapestry-styled dress at a thrift store recently, but she is on the short side, like me, so we had to shorten the dress...significantly. Our blind hem turned out beautifully, and I'll show you how to get the same results.

Keep in mind that you can do the blind stitch front to back (pick up hem fold then back fabric), like me, or back to front (pick up back fabric then hem fold). It makes no difference in the final outcome of the blind hem.

Hemming a dress isn't hard, but hemming a dress by hand, using the blind stitch, can take some time. Doing a blind hem correctly the first time can save a lot of time and effort later, so be sure to follow a few basic rules:

- Stitches should be approx. 1/4" apart
- Keep the stitches taut, but not tight
- Pick up only a tiny bit of fabric (a few threads) with your needle (from the skirt/dress/pants)
- Hide your knots at the side seams
- Match the thread to your garment

You could use a blind hem foot on your sewing machine to achieve the same results. If you're not sure how to use your foot, please see: youtu.be/d4SQLWJKyHA
