How to Install Door Handles on Double Doors / How to Install a Dummy Door Handle

In this video I installed two door handles. The first was a (dummy handle) faux handle installed on the fixed door. This door opens but there is a locking bolt that locks it to the top door jamb. We wanted a dummy handle (a faux handle) to make it look more complete.

First I transcribed lines from the top and bottom of the predrilled hole on the primary door to the fixed door. Then I measured over from the left to find the symmetric horizontal point. Using a calipers I found the vertical center between the two lines. At this intersection between the vertical center and the symmetric horizontal point I marked the center point where the hole saw was used to drill out for the faux lockset (dummy door handle / dummy door lever).

If this were a true faux lockset there would not be a locking mechanism. But, Home Depot didn't have the faux lockset that matched the primary door handle so I made due by purchasing a handle for a closet / hallway door.

After the hole was drilled all the way through the door I vacuumed the dust and installed the strike plate then installed the faux handle. I proceeded to install the primary door's lockset. This was a simple job only because the manufacturer precut and routed out for the primary door's lockset and strike plate. The only tough part was measuring and cutting out the hole for the faux lockset.
